On A Mission

Our Story

We are a mother and son team passionate about helping parents, children and families get the most out of their education and life. We have personal experience navigating the hurdles of a learning difference, Gabe as a college student with Dyslexia and me, Tegan, as the parent of a child with Dyslexia and credentialed educator by profession. We empower parents and families to confidently overcome the challenges you face with the ages and stages of childhood development and an educational system where it’s easy to fall through the cracks. We are here to support you in navigating the school system, parenting, self-advocacy and more.

I’m a mother of three with a Bachelors in Education and Masters in Deaf Education from Gallaudet University. I’ve been working in the educational system for more than 30 years in various capacities.

I taught Kindergarten at Alexander Graham Bell School in Chicago and 1st-5th grade hearing students American Sign Language at Spring Garden Waldorf School in OH. I served as a Parent Infant Advocate at the Hearing Speech Deafness Center in Seattle, WA and I founded both Deaf Yoga Rocks and Signing with Kids—programs designed to serve and empower the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.

From there I went on to become the Relationship Architect and Parent Advocate at Watershed School in Boulder and I currently sit on the board of Directors at The Hillside School—a Boulder-based independent school for students in first through 8th grade who have language-based learning disabilities.

My amazing adult children have taught me as much or more about raising well-equipped children as I’ve taught them. As an educator by profession and mother by nature, I’ve always been passionate about mental health stability.

I’m an outdoor enthusiast who takes advantage of all Colorado has to offer from hiking and biking to skiing and working out. I love to travel, read, play games and spend as much time as I can outside and with my family!

The MamaBrava Origin Story

The moniker MamaBrava was born out of a family trip to Costa Rica some years ago. As Tegan fearlessly surfed the waves with as much agility and grace as her three athletic teenagers, a local remarked “Mama Brava!” Literally translated to mean Brave Mom! The nickname stuck and has grown in meaning over time to Tegan, her family and friends. The fearlessness with which she surfed that day is the same tenacity that she puts into everything she does. Tegan’s family has taken to using MamaBrava not only as a nickname, but a verb. As in, “she’s going to MamaBrava that [insert challenge]”—which essentially means get after it until she succeeds. It’s this innate and unwavering perseverance that makes Tegan and her son Gabe such impactful advocates for their clients.
