As Tegan fearlessly surfed the waves with as much agility and grace as her three athletic teenagers, a local remarked “Mama Brava!” Literally translated to mean Brave Mom! The nickname stuck and has grown in meaning over time to Tegan, her family and friends. The fearlessness with which she surfed that day is the same tenacity that she puts into everything she does. Tegan’s family has taken to using MamaBrava not only as a nickname, but a verb. As in, “she’s going to MamaBrava that [insert challenge]”—which essentially means get after it until she succeeds.
